What Ottawa is talking about

♿ Para Transpo

  •  Ottawa Transit Riders say that OC Tranpo head Renée Amilcar was one of several officials who took up the campaigning organization's offer to ride Para Transpo with a regular user. Councillors Glen Gower, Marty Carr, Joel Harden, and Wilson Lo have also made the trips. The goal is to demonstrate the reality of using Para Transpo to the able-bodied powers-that-be. (Ottawa Transit Riders)

➕ Related CBC journalist Amanda Putz has an audio interview with disability rights campaigner Terrie Meehan on their Para Transpo Challenge trip.

🔥 Garbage Fire

  •  The Pontiac region government has given up its dream of a $500 million waste incinerator project. The plan was to build the incinerator and attract business from other municipalities, creating 50 permanent jobs. Residents were not convinced and Québec provincial law prevented the City of Ottawa from sending its trash over the border. (CBC)

⚖️ Ottawa Fire Service

  •  A charge each has been dropped against the two defendents in the fire fighter assault trial. After a week of testimony from witnesses, the Crown requested the criminal harassment charge against former Ottawa fire fighter Eric Einagel and the negligence causing bodily harm charge against captain Greg Wright be withdrawn. Both were accepted by the judge. Einagel is still on trial for a charge of assault against another fire fighter and Wright is still charged with threatening to discipline the same fire fighter to prevent a report of the incident. (Arthur White-Crummey at CBC)

🛻 Convoy News

  •  The Crown showed the court videos of Convoy organizer Pat King celebrating gridlocking downtown Ottawa. The videos show King saying things like ‘We jammed up Kent Street’ and ’I'm having so much fun. I'm not kidding, I'm having the time of my life’. King has pleaded not guilty to nine charges. (Canadian Press)
