Happy Birthday to ottawan Members Laura M (April 30) and Monica G
(May 4). We hope you had fantastic birthdays and were spoiled rotten.

Mother's Day

If you have a mother figure to celebrate (we're talking about your Mom, your friend who’s a cat or dog Mom, your mother-in-law, your grandma, your favourite Aunt, etc.) there is still time to find a gift that will make her day. Here's a list of 10 cool ways to celebrate.

🌹 Koena Spa (1172 Chemin d’Aylmer, Gatineau, Québéc J9H 5T2) has a long list of thermal experiences for her to enjoy on her own or with a friend.

🌹 Spend a little (a single Mom heart cookie for $6.50) or more (Mother’s Day cake that serves six to eight, from $50) at Ottawa’s Batter up Bakery. 613-793-CAKE (2253).

🌹 Montréal’s Dot & Lil has a selection of Mom-worthy skincare products on 20% discount until May 12.

🌹 Matter Company of Toronto is offering free shipping on orders of $50 or more. New parents will appreciate the Mom & Baby Travel Pack ($38) or give her a Hand and Foot Pack to soothe her extremities. Or splurge on the Homebody Kit ($89) so she can book a self care evening for herself.

🌹 The wine-lover will appreciate this Bouquet of Rosés from Savvy Company. She’ll receive five Ontario rosés, two tasting glasses, and a $20 gift certificate for a wine on the Savvy Company’s list. $119.

🌹 Why just treat her when you can enjoy the present too? Red Apron’s Mother’s Day High Tea Box will is an afternoon experience for six: It contains  ‘Bake From Frozen’ vanilla Scones, Devonshire Cream, house-made Strawberry Rhubarb Jam, and 15 proper English Breakfast Tea Bogs. $57. Available for pick up only (no delivery) Friday May 10 or Saturday May 11. Check the Red Apron website for all of the Mother’s Day meals. 410 Gladstone Ave. K2P 0Z1

🌹 Use the code MOTHER at Barefoot Venus for 15% off almost everything site wide.

🌹 Give her some locally made glamour: the Ash Posy Hand Luxe Cream in Sea Buckthorn is formulated with cold pressed and vitamin-rich berries and avoids that nasty greasy feel. $25.

🌹 Present her with breakfast in bed: Wellington Butchery is offering a house-made 10-inch Mother’s Day Quiche made with ham, Gruyere cheese, and caramelized onion that you can heat and serve at home.

🌹 Spend the morning with her at the Experimental Farm's 2024 Friends of the Farm Plant Sale. Along shopping for plants, cards, gifts and gardening books, she can ask the experts from the Master Gardeners of Ottawa-Carleton her gardening questions. Rain or shine from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the parking lot beside K.W. Neatby Building at 960 Carling K1Y 4X2 and Maple Drive (look for the signs).

Save 30% on the Made Here collection by Victoria, BC brand Ecologyst during the month of May.

    BUT, ONE MORE THING ...

Wow, this PressProgress story makes out that last weekend’s Ottawa International Food and Book Expo was more like Ottawa’s Fyre Festival. Vendors reported patrons presented coupons for free food (much to the vendors' surprise), there was a ‘cannabis slow dating’ event, and the books section had a large contingent of the conspiracy theory variety.

The organizer of the event, Ray Samuels, is a character in his own right. Besides being a People’s Party activist and a UFO conspiracy theorist, last month he pitched the Charlottetown City Council to build a 25,000 seat stadium to attract a Canadian Football League team.
